Congratulations to Team BC

The 2009 Canadian Nationals are now completed. Juan de Fuca LBC facilities were bursting at the seams over the past week with over 200 volunteers from the South Vancouver Island bowling clubs assisting 128 competitors have an almost flawless tourney. The greens improved each day of the competitions under clear and warm temperatures and the games showed it.

At week's end BC's women's team were victorious in winning the Lady Alexander team trophy (32 points) following the round-robin events. The men's team came just shy with 33 points (Ontario “B” 34 points) for the Cy English team trophy.

In the medal rounds for both the men's and women's singles it wound up being a re-match of our own Provincial PlaydowAnne Van Bastelaere & Josephine Leens. Josephine LEE (BCA)had an early lead tChristie Grahame & Vern Greenhillill Ann Van Bastelaere (BCB) started catching up. Josephine held her off in the final ends to win the Gold medal and Ann took home the Silver. Christie Grahame (BCA) had an uphill battle with Vern Greenhill (BCB) but was unable to make up the difference before Vern captured the Gold medal. Christie hoisted the Silver.

Men's fours (Geoff Pershick/Fred Fong/Vince Mai/German Santana) and BCA Ladies Pairs (Mary Wright/ Belle Chan) both came up short in the Bronze medal games.
